Noire was an especially curious beast as it focused on being a L. That on it own was an interesting hook, but it was the facial capture tech that got people talking. Developer Team Bondi were sadly binned before they could get a crack at perfecting things in a sequel, but their legacy made quite an impact. The result was a barren period for the genre, which had one hell of a rain spell when EA Visceral Games gave the world Dead Space.
The use of audio gave Dead Space its horror credentials far more than any monsters though, with every creaking pipe, bowing floor and hiss of steam cranking up the tension before something ghastly inevitably burst out of a dark corner.
Oh and poor Isaac is going ever so slightly mad too, making for a trippy, brutal ride to rid the universe of the Necromorph menace. A shame that it too suffered the fate of those that came before it, and ended up shelved indefinitely after the third entry became more action shooter than action horror.
It seems almost laughable to think of Call of Duty as groundbreaking anymore, but there was of course a time nearly a decade ago where that was very true. Modern Warfare brought online multiplayer shooters to the masses, and played a massive part in how big the gaming industry has become for better and worse.
Mere months after launch, the PS3 really needed something new, something fresh, something with a hint of promise as a potential moneymaker. It was rough round the edges, but the action set pieces, and the camaraderie between Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, gave the game that aforementioned promise in spades. Needless to say, this was the first step towards building a brand new successful franchise for Sony, and the re-invigoration of Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter creators, Naughty Dog.
Shepard meets people of all species along the way to visiting a host of memorable planetscapes, all of which were burned in the minds of players long after the credits rolled. After two games set in the undersea city of Rapture, Bioshock Infinite took to the clouds to deliver us unto Columbia, the floating city. A whole heap of mystery, imagery that sticks in your head, and and end point that throws up some interesting questions about the series as a whole.
Now there was an open world that combined the labyrinthine corridors of Asylum with sheer depth and many a neon-struck street for Batman to patrol. Some prefer the more condensed nature of Asylum, but City gave more balance to Batman the detective, and Batman the vigilante. When a game like Valkyria Chronicles releases only a niche group of people really notice. Thankfully the that niche group made their voices heard people started to take notice.
Praised by critics and consumers a like, this tactical role-playing game took the scene by storm reaching praise not seen since the release of Final Fantasy Tactics. Set in a fictional World War II and tells a gripping and emotional story, its unique blend of tactical action combat and strategic troop placement made for some exciting battles. For those who missed it on the PS3 can give the game a go on their PS4 as Sega released a remastered version early in GTA IV gets an unusual amount of flak, but looking back, you can understand why to a degree.
Truth is, the return to Liberty City was huge, but it was more about actual depth of detail. San Andreas may have been an epic sprawl of three cities, but it was quite sparse for details, GTA IV succeeded in making something closer to a living city by condensing the outward size for a tighter, more visually active map. The change of character was also important. Its games Flow and Flower were warmly-received independent darlings, but with Journey the company transcended studio size.

We will always be there for you. Borderlands was pretty unique at the time it released. Dead Nation released at a time when zombie games were all the rage. Team up with a friend, gather some supplies, then build a house together.
And it still holds up very well, especially the co-op. Dead island is like Borderlands, but with zombies! Grab two guitar peripherals and rock out with a mate. The co-op mode features brand new charts, with the second person playing along with the bass or rhythm guitar part.
There are some songs in the game that can only be unlocked by playing through the co-op career mode — from some big names, too, like Beastie Boys and Red Hot Chili Peppers. That does it for our listing of the best PS3 co-op games of all time! Hope it helped you out. Here are some more posts like this if you need them! Connect with us. Marvel Ultimate Alliance Diablo is great and all, but you know what would make it better? Resistance Series Resistance was one of the first PS3 games to exist, releasing right alongside the console on launch day. Rock Band 3 Perhaps the most versatile co-op game in existence.
Fuse From the creators of Spyro and Ratchet and Clank comes something completely different — the third-person co-op action game Fuse. Resident Evil 5 Resident Evil 5 was the first game in the series to feature co-op.
Helldivers Helldivers is a cool top-down twin stick shooter. Trine 2 Play as a wizard, thief, or knight in this fantasy side-scrolling puzzle platformer. Dead Space 3 Similarly to Resident Evil 5, Dead Space 3 was a big turning point in the series, as it focused less on the horror, and more on the action.
LittleBigPlanet 2 The second game in the LittleBigPlanet series is beefier than its predecessor, including a lot more than just platforming. Army of Two Army of Two is a co-op game first and foremost. Tales of Graces F Tales of Graces F allows a second player to join in during battles by just connecting a second controller.
Borderlands Series Borderlands was pretty unique at the time it released. Dead Nation Dead Nation released at a time when zombie games were all the rage. Minecraft Team up with a friend, gather some supplies, then build a house together. Dead Island Dead island is like Borderlands, but with zombies!
This version is still a great way to play the critically acclaimed dungeon crawler - which can be enjoyed in either local or online co-op with up to four players. Splinter Cell: Conviction Stealthing with a buddy in either online or local co-op is just as good as you'd imagine it would be.
Over-the-top gameplay, including mechs, turns from frustrating to fun when you add friends to the mix. Just when we all thought it was dead, Rock Band re-emerged and became one of the best multiplayer PS3 games. Fortunately, some dream up this concept and brought it to fruition. Up to seven people can join your band—one drummer, a keyboardist, two guitarists, and three vocalists. A wizard, a knight, and a thief head into the wilderness. Invite two of your friends to join you, each playing as one of the three main characters.
Trine 2 has a unique feature where two players can swap characters as long as they agree. Whether you play in person or online, you can team up with three friends to build your arsenal, adopt pets, and attack the masses to save the kidnapped princesses.
No list of best multiplayer PS3 games would be complete without Resident Evil. Billy and Jimmy are back to save Marian and modernized in the PS3 version, which is just as fun as the original. Adding friends to the mix introduces some fun dialogue and moves, too. However, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is certainly an exception to that rule.
The spinoff also heralds the return of the series after a break. As Lara and Totec, you and a friend get to explore, solve puzzles, and battle enemies. We really like how balanced this game feels. In fact, any of the games in this series can be played entirely with a friend instead of solo. Borderlands games perfectly pair elements of first-person shooter with role-playing games to deliver a fun experience.
